The fleet is set for Monhegan 2025!

Registration closed on Friday for the 2025 Monhegan Island Race and Seguin Sprint. in less then two weeks 14 boats will set sail on the 140 nm Monhegan course and 25 boats will take on the 50 nm Seguin course. Check out the entry list.

The Monhegan fleet, presented by Wyman’s, has a number of returning boats and some new ones. Past overall winners Sean Mckennon & Barry Larson’s Gremlin and Geoff Emanuel’s Tamarack are returning,, along with 2025 class winners John Myles’s Veladare and Pat Dionne’s Chicama, as are Barracuda, Wild Blue (recently returned from the Marblehead to Halifax Race), Riff Raff, Temptress, Delja and Brandi.

New this year is Doug Weisz’s Orange Whip, a J111 who handily won the Seguin race last year. Another new boat is Gary Weisberg’s Heat Wave - a Mills 1220 out of Marblehead. With a rating of 0, it will be a boat to watch! Maine Maritime Academy is entering Abu, a Figaro 2 that they recently acquired. Another fast new boat is Koloa Maoli - a Class 40 sailed by ocean racer Ronnie Simpson.

Ronnie is starting his campaign for the 2027 Global Solo Challenge, a single handed, round the world race. In the 2024 GSC he was 3/4 of the way around the world, in the Atlantic when he was dismasted and had to abandon his Open 50. The Monhegan race will be a short sea-trial for the sailor with over 175,000 blue water miles under his belt. You can read more about Ronnie and his GSC campaign on his website. Here is a great article he wrote for Sail Magazine about how Portland is a nexus of American short-handed ocean racing.

Over in the Seguin fleet we have a number of returning boats and a few new ones as well. Cuyler Morris’s Darkhorse returns for another crack at the course record. Sojourn, Go Dog Go, Etos XLII, High Energy and Breakaway fill out Class A. Over in Class B, new boats Brightbill, Equity and Elusive join Elixir, Crazy Horse, and Apollo. Class C sees last year’s winner Dilly Dilly competing with newcomers Chaos Theory, Jammin and veterans C’est La Vie & Gryphon. Our biggest Seguin Class is the Jib and Main - will Jim Palmer’s Morning Star defend their title, or will Mainsee, Ingaina, Inseperable, Mistake Not, Spadafina, Darlin or Hope manage to unseat them?

Follow all the action on the Monhegan website throughout the race with updates, Yellowbrick tracking and whatever media we can pull together and get online for you.
