Summer is coming… it’s time to think Monhegan
The countdown is on for the 95th Monhegan Island Race!
Join us July 31–August 2 for one of Maine’s most legendary offshore sailing traditions.
Choose your own adventure with two iconic course options:
The 140-nautical-mile overnight Monhegan Island Course, a true offshore test of seamanship and endurance
Or the 50-nautical-mile Seguin Island Course, a thrilling day race packed with classic Maine scenery
All competitors are welcomed with the warm hospitality of the Portland Yacht Club, one of the oldest and most storied yacht clubs in the country.
The weekend begins with the beloved Monhegan Party & Lobster Bake. From the shore, enjoy sweeping views as crews gather to swap weather predictions, strategy, and sea stories. Live music, great food and drink, and plenty of camaraderie set the tone for an unforgettable race weekend.
The Monhegan Course sends sailors from Casco Bay, south around Boon Island Light off the York coast, across to Monhegan Island, and back to a spectacular finish near Portland Head Light. Along the way, racers are treated to classic Maine sailing—rugged coastline, historic lighthouses, marine wildlife, breathtaking sunsets, and invigorating watches offshore.
The Seguin Island Course features a short leg to the Lightship Buoy marking the approach to Portland Harbor, then heads down the coast to Seguin Island Light, before returning and finishing near iconic Portland Head Light for a rewarding day on the water.
No matter the course, all finishers are greeted ashore with warm welcomes, refreshments, and a chance to relax and share stories at PYC. The club remains open through the night as boats arrive, ensuring every crew enjoys the reception they deserve. The weekend wraps up on Sunday morning with an awards brunch, complete with delicious food, live music, and plenty of tales from the race.
