Seguin Fleet Updates
0425 A number of finishers starting after 0400: not in order - C'est La Vie, Elusive, Wind Chime, Apollo, Solstice, AEventure, Mistake Not! Hope crosses the line and is the last boat to finish the 2026 Monhegan Island Race and Seguin Sprint! Thank you all for an incredible event. See you tomorrow for the awards brunch from 10am - 12! Come celebrate Monhegan and all of the incredible stories that were made over the past 36 hours!
0315 - It’s not over yet. A compression of the fleet has made it a race for 2nd in Seguin JAM D and for 3rd in Seguin B. While the boats aren’t moving fast, they are moving. Meanwhile on shore people are warming up and telling stories, it has been quiet a night at PYC.
0200 - A bunch of boats finished in the last hour or so. At 0200 Wind Chime cleared East Cod Ledge, so the whole fleet is in the final leg of the race. The trick is that the wind is light and the tide is starting to go out. It looked like the wind filled a bit from behind and condensed the fleet.
Sunday 8/2 00:45 - We have finishers on the Seguin Course. Skoot takes mono hull line honors with Abu and Family Wagon hot on their heels.
2315 - It is coming down to the wire - 5 boats are all lined up across the course all around 2.5 miles from the finish. It is going to be interesting in the next hour to see who comes out on top. Go Dog Go, Breakaway, Skoot, Sirius and High Energy all have a shot at line honors.
2030 - Go Dog Go, Breakaway and Skoot are neck and neck as they pass East Cod Ledge. They are about 6 miles from the finish. Sirius and High Energy are just a bit behind them. Meanwhile Wind Chime has rounded Seguin so the whole fleet is on their way back. There is an 18 mile stretch of boats from Portland Head to Seguin!
2130 - Riptide Racing has rounded (sort-of) East Cod Ledge, heading towards the finish (again sort-of) It’s a catamaran, so their angles are not what you might expect from a monohull. Either way they are ripping along at 9 knots!
2100 - Looks like there is some breeze coming in to the boats that are halfway back, looks like the inside has paid off as Skoot and Go Dog Go have moved forward passing Breakaway and Sirius in Class A. Morning Star leads Class D, Family Wagon leads the Double-handed boats. High Energy leads Class B and is pushing into the lead pack of Class A. There are more boats rounding Seguin, though it continue to look light up there.
2045 - The fleets are crossing as boats heading back are opting to go outside (presumably for breeze) It will be a challenging race to stay moving as things get lighter throughout the night.
20:30 - The Seguin Course Time Correction Factor B = 600 - Light
1945 - Boats are rounding Seguin, Riptide Racing and Family Wagon are around. Skoot, Breakaway, Morning Star are soon to follow, The rest of the front pack is in the area. The second group is closing in with Wind Chime being the farthest out at 10 miles to go to reach Seguin.
1715 - The fleet has split into two packs. The vanguard is led by Skoot & Breakaway, with Family Wagon and Morning Star close behind. Sirius & Bato are neck and neck, High Energy, Abu and Go Dog Go are all in the mix as this group is spread out across 2 miles. The second group is led by Atlantic Ave and Apollo. In the middle is Riptide Racing, who had a long upwind to get to the Pilot Buoy, but now is ripping along at 12 knots! They should be moving up through the fleet fairly quickly. Meanwhile a few boats are rounding the Pilot Buoy and our full keeled entry of Black Mallard is headed directly at the mark at a stately pace. Elixir has withdrawn from the race.
1600 - There are 4 boats all rounding the Pilot Buoy close together. Morning Star, Skoot, Breakaway and Bato, many more to follow. They are on their way to Seguin!
1430 - They are all off and running. The last start was just before 1330, the boats had a nice southerly of 8-10. Right now Morning Star leads the fleet out towards the Pilot Buoy. High Energy and Bato are leading Class B & A respectively. Riptide got off to a ripping start as they headed out under full steam.
